Live to Be – Educating kids about drug use.
Drug and alcohol addiction truly is a dangerous and a concerning problem in this country. The problem has become so bad that multiple organizations have risen up to try to do something about these addictions and crisis issues and problems. In fact, individual people like Jared Blake, country music singer and songwriter, have dedicated themselves to trying to do something about these drug and alcohol addiction issues.
Jared Blake, Live to Be, SAFE (Stopping Addiction with Family Prevention) and hundreds of other organizations and individuals have answered the call to rise up and to try to do something about drug and alcohol addiction once and for all and for good.
In 2016, Jared Blake, accompanied by the nonprofit group Live to Be, and funded and sponsored by SAFE Prevention, toured Michigan, performing music shows and giving speeches at both schools and at addiction treatment centers too. On this tour, the team was really able to reach a lot of people and help them and connect with them on a personal level.
Live To Be
Live to Be, Jared Blake’s nonprofit organization that helps him tour the nation and work on this project in American schools, approaches the project of raising awareness on drug and alcohol addiction in a very different way. Basically, Live to Be does not order, command, lecture or be at all forceful or authoritative with kids. The idea is that this has not been exactly effective in the past, so why would it be effective now?
Instead, Live to Be seeks to definitely give kids the facts and statistics about drug and alcohol abuse and addiction yes, but to rather spend a lot more time on talking to kids about their goals and their futures. This will help them figure things out for themselves sooner rather than later as Live to Be seeks to help kids work through doubt, peer pressure, uncertainty, and fear.
The ideology of Live to Be is that kids, adolescents, teens, and young adults only turn to drugs and alcohol when either a). they get peer pressured or shamed into doing drugs and alcohol or b). they don’t really have a lot of purpose or goals to work towards. Live to Be found that, if teens and adolescents were really motivated and impassioned with goals and plans, they were a lot less likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol.
SAFE (Stopping Addiction with Family Education)
SAFE, or SAFE Prevention teamed up with Jared Blake and Live to Be in 2016 and began sponsoring them. SAFE Prevention is a nonprofit group that seeks to help people by providing a great deal of support and help into the community by offering extensive and engaging solutions for the family members and loved ones of drug and alcohol addicts. Essentially, while there are twenty-three million Americans who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, it was also found that there are about one hundred and fifty million Americans who were connected to someone who was actively abusing drugs and alcohol.
With numbers like these, it is easy to see that the family members and loved ones of drug and alcohol addicts need help and support too. Also, SAFE Prevention found that family members and loved ones of addicts are the number one catalyst in drug and alcohol addicts actually finally throwing in the towel and making the correct decision to beat drug and alcohol addiction. With data like this, SAFE Prevention made the decision to help and support the family members and loved ones of addicts to basically try to give them the data that they need to then reach out and help their addicted loved ones.
